Dr. William Atchley was the Head of the NC State University Department of Genetics from 1986 to 1990. His honors include the NCSU Alexander Quarles Holladay Medal for Excellence, the NC Governor’s Order of the Long Leaf Pine, membership in the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the German Alexander von Humboldt Research Award, and an International Distinguished Professorship to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
